Lady Ducks slide by Lady Buffs

EVAN HALE evan.hale@taylor press.net GIDDINGS – The Taylor Lady Ducks varsity softball team now sits with a 2-2 record in district play after defeating the Giddings Lady Buffaloes Tuesday night on the road. Tuesday’s game was a fan friendly game as the two teams scored a combined 40 runs with the Lady Ducks scoring 25 of them.

Los Patos season ends in second round

EVAN HALE evan.hale@taylor press.net BRENHAM – The Taylor Ducks boys’ varsity soccer team, known to many as Los Patos, comes to an end in the second round of the playoffs in Brenham. Los Patos fell to the El Campo Ricebirds 1-0 after a tightly contested game that included incredible defense from both teams.

Thrall run-rules Bartlett

BARTLETT – The Thrall Tigers (12-6 overall, 4-3 District 27-2A) scored early and often in an 18-3 thrashing of the Bartlett Bulldogs (4-11, 0-6) Tuesday. The Tigers got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the opening stanza.

Tigerettes thump Lassies

BARTLETT – Neveah Irvin drove in four runs, and Autree Kelm allowed four hits over three innings of work to help lead the Thrall Tigerettes (10-11-2 overall, 4-4 District 27-2A) to a 19-2 rout of the Bartlett Lassies Tuesday night.

Tigers, Birdies and Eagles

EVAN HALE evan.hale@taylor press.net The Thrall Tigers competed at their district golf meet this past Tuesday at Mustang Creek in Taylor and dominated the course. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams for the Tigers came away with a first-place finish, with the Tigers’ second boys’ team claiming second place.

Los Patos take first step in playoff journey

Los Patos continued their dominant season with a firstround playoff win at home last week. The Taylor Ducks boys’ soccer team defeated the La Vega Pirates 7-0 in the first round of playoffs Friday, March 24, on their home field.

BURNET – The Taylor Lady Ducks track team showed their speed and endurance this past weekend on the road. The Lady Ducks traveled to Burnet to compete in the Burnet Bulldog Relays, where they had a chance to show off their talents.

Hippos beat Knights for first district win of the season

HUTTO – The Hutto Hippos baseball team picked up their first district win of the season Friday, March 24, after beating the Harker Heights Knights 11-9 on their home field. The Hippos and Knights always have a little extra gas added when they matchup athletically because it is a big rivalry, but the Hippos came away with the win this time.

Welcome back to the Huddle, where today we will be discussing a few things I have noticed at the NCAA tournament. Specifically, in the handshake line there have been a few instances of players still mixing it up when the game is already over.

Tigers thump Bremond

THRALL – Maverick McAllister and Jaden Rodriguez each knocked out three hits Saturday in leading the Thrall Tigers (11-5 overall, 3-3 District 27-2A) to 15-3 win over the Bremond Tigers. The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning, when Bremond put a pair of runs on the board.

With the end of basketball season official, it is time to name the All CenTex East team for the boys in the area. Every player that made the team earned their spot for sheer will to win basketball games, and they may not have won the big prize, but their efforts will not go unnoticed.

Lions move to 4-1 in district play

GRANGER – The Granger Lions got their second win in a row Wednesday, March 22, defeating the Milano Eagles for their fourth district win of the season. The Lions would come away with a gritty 5-3 to improve their district record, and move themselves into third place.
