Tigers crush Burton

CASEY GEORG Special to the Press

THRALL — Breken Proctor scored a season-high 24 points, and the Thrall Tigers (3-0) dominated the boards, in the Tigers’ 65-24 win over the Burton Panthers (0-1), Tuesday night.

“It was a very physical game and I was proud of our teamwork offensively, and on defense,” said Thrall Coach Charles Tindol. “We were also fortunate to be able to play everyone more minutes in this game.”

The outcome of the game was never really in question.

The Tigers jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the opening minutes of the game and never looked back.

Thrall continued its earlyseason trend of having multiple scoring threats. Proctor dropped six points in the opening period, but the Tigers also picked up four points each from Dawson Meiske and Ethan Dahl in the opening period. The Tigers cruised to a 19-7 lead after one quarter of play.

The Tigers’ shooting cooled off in the second period, but they were still able to extend their lead to 31-16 at the half.

Meiske, who finished the night with 14 points, scored six of his points in the second quarter.

Steven Walker, who tallied 11 points on the night, dropped five in the period.

Burton continued to struggle from the field in the second half. The Panthers finished the night shooting just 16 percent from the field, and the Tigers outscored the visitors 42-10 in the paint, as they controlled every aspect of the game.

In the third quarter, the Tigers were able to keep up the balanced scoring attack. Proctor dropped five points in the quarter, while Dahl added four. But it was the Tigers’ swarming defense that allowed Thrall to push its lead to 47-19 through three quarters. Burton hit just one shot from the field in the quarter, and the Tigers pulled down 18 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive end, limiting Burton’s second-chance scoring opportunities.

Proctor did most of the damage for Thrall in the fourth quarter. He scored 13 points in the period, including connecting on three of five shots from behind the three-point arch, to seal it.

Despite the lopsided score, Tindol said there were still some areas his team needed to work on. “We shot the ball better, but we need to work on blocking out on rebounds,” he said. “We’ll keep trying to get better at the fundamentals of the game.”

The Tigers hosted the Thrall Invitational tournament over the weekend and will play at Caldwell on Tuesday.
