CEDAR PARK — The Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team looked very sharp Tuesday, Nov. 21 as the Hippos dominated Vista Ridge High School from start to finish in a 76-44 victory on the road against the Rangers.
Led by a very tight team defense throughout Tuesday afternoon’s contest, Hutto’s squad led by Head Coach Gant Caraway could not be stopped from the opening tip of the basketball. Consistent scoring from junior Cylin Tate, senior Logan Hanks and senior Jacques Calhoun had the Hippos out to an early 17-8 lead after the first quarter and the scoring outburst only continued from there. Hutto really stepped it up in the second quarter and cruised to a 39-15 lead over Vista Ridge by halftime as the team played with a lot of energy.
Hutto came out fast in the third quarter and got more scoring from senior Byron Piper, junior Jacob Bell and senior Dylan Patrick as the Hippos continued to attack the Rangers with a 21-7 scoring run during the period to extend the large lead to 60-32 as the shots continued to fall.
The Hippos (2-3 overall record) will be back Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. after the Thanksgiving break to host New Braunfels Canyon High School for the home opener. Hutto will then compete Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 at the Mansfield Tournament against other large schools.
