Taylor High School celebrated Black History Month in February with presentations by several speakers to share local stories and information about black history. Quincy Griffin shared a display of his family heritage and visited with students about the importance of knowing your family’s history.

Trades Day is always one of the Chamber’s favorite events of the year and, my goodness, this year did not disappoint! Held March 2, at the Williamson County Expo Center, the event welcomed more than 600 students from 13 schools including those in Taylor, Elgin, Giddings, Hutto, Fayetteville, Pflugerville, Burnet and Temple. They learned about career options from four trade and technical schools and met employers from 12 businesses that included S&D Plumbing, EMD Electronics, Durcon, Samsung, United Ag & Turf, Tesla and more.

Lone Star Circle of Care The Taylor Chamber was trilled to be at the official opening of the Lone Star Circle of Care at Taylor West End School on Friday, Feb. 25.

Lindsay O’Dell had two home runs and drove in five runs, and Alyssa Ortiz homered and drove in two more as the Diamond Lady Ducks collected their 11th win of the season with a 9-2 hammering against the Jarrell Lady Cougars last Tuesday, March 22 at home.

In four at-bats, Chris Perez collected four hits and drove in four runs in Taylor’s 10-2 beat down of the Burnet Bulldogs last Tuesday, March 25, to improve to 3-1 in district and 10-6-1 overall. The Ducks came out holding nothing back as they scored three runs in the bottom of first inning.

Donnie Cantwell and Johnny Rider combined for six hits and 10 runs batted in to lead the Granger Lions (3-6 overall, 1-3 District 27-2A) to a 12-8 win over the Thrall Tigers (8-4-1, 3-1) Wednesday. The Lions got off to a quick start scoring four runs in the top of the first.

Addison Leschber scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie game and give the Thrall Tigerettes (12-8 overall, 5-1 District 27-2A) a 5-4 win over the Bremond Lady Tigers (9-5, 4-2).

LADY DUCKS TAKE TOPS AT RIESEL It was all green on St. Patrick’s Day as the Taylor varsity girls track team had the competition seeing green at the Riesel Indian Invitational last Thursday, March 17.

James Michael Light was born in Austin, Jan. 13, 1977, to Jerry and Janie Light.

Joyce Ann Avalos, age 77, of Rockdale, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, in the Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital in Round Rock. Joyce was born July 3, 1944, in Taylor to Ruth (Pokorny) and Hamlin August Susan.

Raymond Daniel Mokry, 77, of Taylor, left this world to join the Lord Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Raymond was born to Frank and Annie Mokry Feb.

Sybil Josephine Pustejovsky passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Sybil was born Oct.
