Addison Leschber scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie game and give the Thrall Tigerettes (12-8 overall, 5-1 District 27-2A) a 5-4 win over the Bremond Lady Tigers (9-5, 4-2).
It appeared as if the Tigerettes would run away with the game after grabbing a 4-1 lead in the first. A Dezi Lopez triple, followed by Leschber reaching after being hit by a pitch and consecutive singles from Ashlyn Jarosek and Raelynn Johnson, gave Thrall a 3-1 lead. Johnson later scored on a passed ball to give the Tigerettes a threerun cushion.
Neither team scored again until the sixth when Bremond knotted the game with three runs. And error and a walk put two runners on and a three-run shot over the centerfield fence knotted the score at four apiece and setting the stage for the Tigerettes’ comeback in the bottom half of the inning.
Bremond had a chance to tie the game once again in the seventh, getting two runners on with a single and an error. But, Jarosek was able to make the throw home on a routine grounder to beat the runner and end the threat.
It was a pitcher’s duel from the outset, despite to two big innings. Aubrie Henderson, who ran her season record to 8-5 and her district mark to 3-1, scattered six hits over seven innings and struck out seven. Bremond, meanwhile, allowed just four hits over six innings and struck out 11.
Thrall was on the road Friday, traveling to Holland to face the Lady Hornets. They will begin the second half of district play on Tuesday when they travel to Granger. The Tigerettes took the first game against Granger 7-1 in Thrall.
