Hippos football to host Midway for Homecoming

HUTTO — For the first time in almost a whole month, the Hutto High School varsity football team will return to Hutto Memorial Stadium at 7:30 p.m. this Friday as the Hippos are set to take on Midway High School (Waco) for their annual Homecoming game.

Lions conclude nondistrict play vs. Bruni

GRANGER — The Granger High School varsity football team found its way back into the win column last Friday at home as the Lions pounded Goldthwaite High School 35-6 at The Lions’ Den on Military and First Responders Night. Next up on the radar, the Lions (3-1 overall record) will have Thursday Night Lights at 7 p.m. this week as Granger will take on Bruni High School. However, this game between the Lions and Badgers will be played down south at neutral site Kenedy High School.

Tigers look to bounce back from first loss

THRALL — A heartbreaking 20-14 defeat on the road last week at Jewett Leon High School that came down to the 1-yard line and the final play of the game is now a thing of the past for the Thrall High School varsity football team. The Tigers (3-1 overall record) will return home at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night to host Flatonia High School in the much-anticipated 2A-1 District 13 opener for both squads.

JEWETT — The Thrall High School varsity volleyball team went up against the best team in 2A as the Tigerettes fell in four sets on Sept. 16 to 34-0 Jewett Leon High School on the road.

Lady Hippos suffer first district loss

PFLUGERVILLE — The Hutto High School varsity volleyball team hit a bump in the road on Friday, Sept. 15 as the Lady Hippos were defeated for the first time in District 12-6A play at Pflugerville Weiss High School. Although the Lady Hippos competed hard under first-year head coach Jessica Martinez, Hutto could not get the best of Weiss as they lost in three straight sets: 14-25, 14-25 and 19-25.
