Rams hit the road for first time this season

The St. Mary’s Catholic School varsity football team will travel for the first time in 2023 as the Rams will play at 7 p.m.

The St. Mary’s Catholic School varsity football team will travel for the first time in 2023 as the Rams will play at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 at Mineral Wells Community Christian School.

The Rams (2-2 overall record and 0-1 in district play this season) will look to bounce back from a close 44-28 loss at home this past Friday to Arlington St. Paul’s Prep in a game that got away from St. Mary’s in the second half.

Against the visiting Lions, junior running back Tyler Zimmerhanzel was again superb for the Rams as he led the way on the ground with 142 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown. Fellow St. Mary’s junior running back Ethan Lively made the most of his opportunities as he rushed for 57 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries.

The defense is going to need to continue to force takeaways again in this upcoming game against Community Christian as turnovers can make the biggest difference in six-man football. Zimmerhanzel intercepted two passes for the Rams on defense, Lively recovered a fumble and senior linebacker Brady Altman led St. Mary’s with a gamehigh 11 tackles and one pass deflection in the loss to St. Paul’s.

The Warriors of Community Christian (3-1 overall record) have won three straight contests and are fresh off a 61-27 victory this past Friday vs. Waco CenTex Home School.
