CORPUS CHRISTI — The Thrall High School girls varsity cross country team made the long trip down south to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Sept. 16 to take part in the very large 2023 TAMU-CC Islander Splash meet held at Dr. Jack A.
Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium.
Under head coach James Cavender and assistant coach Katina Waker, the Tigerettes had five runners compete in the varsity girls’ two-mile run in a massive field of 300 runners. Thrall junior Sarah Laurence was superb for the Tigerettes as she placed near the top of the field in 28th place with a great time of 14:02.55. Tigerettes freshman Kayla Pouncey finished in the top third of the field as her mark of 15:43.30 was good enough for 109th place.
Also competing for Thrall was freshman Gracie Webb in 223rd place with a time of 18:05.84, freshman Sarah Loeve in 279th place with a mark of 20:26.82 and sophomore Addison Ward in 290th place with a time of 22:20.28.
The Thrall girls will be joined by the boys this upcoming weekend as the Tigers and Tigerettes will compete on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Cameron Invitational.
