JEWETT — The Thrall High School varsity volleyball team went up against the best team in 2A as the Tigerettes fell in four sets on Sept. 16 to 34-0 Jewett Leon High School on the road.

The first two sets were back-and-forth action as the Tigerettes fell 21-25 in the first set but Thrall head coach Bethany Grissom’s squad bounced back to take the second set 25-23, only the second set Leon had lost all season up until that point.

Unfortunately for the Tigerettes, the Lady Cougars were too much to handle in the final two sets as Thrall fell 25-15 to Leon in the third and fourth sets to seal the deal. Thrall continues to get outstanding play this season from senior Melaina Grissom, sophomore Brynn Leschber, junior Emily Holybee, junior Amber Kevil, sophomore Navaeh Irvin and others on this talented roster that should at least compete for a regional championship in the playoffs.

The Tigerettes (21-6) currently sit as the No. 10 team in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll and have one more non-district match on Tuesday night at Mumford High School before Thrall starts District 26-2A play at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Bartlett High School. This will be a rematch with No. 8 Mumford as Thrall already defeated this Lady Mustangs team back on Aug. 12 at the Cameron Tournament.
