Lady Hippos suffer first district loss

PFLUGERVILLE — The Hutto High School varsity volleyball team hit a bump in the road on Friday, Sept. 15 as the Lady Hippos were defeated for the first time in District 12-6A play at Pflugerville Weiss High School. Although the Lady Hippos competed hard under first-year head coach Jessica Martinez, Hutto could not get the best of Weiss as they lost in three straight sets: 14-25, 14-25 and 19-25.

Although the Lady Hippos competed hard under first-year head coach Jessica Martinez, Hutto could not get the best of Weiss as they lost in three straight sets: 14-25, 14-25 and 19-25.

In order to continue to succeed in district play, the Lady Hippos must rely on even more great play from junior Isabella Orton, senior Charlize Williams, senior Cori Babb, senior Hailey Bartley, junior Macie Atkinson, senior Jayanaa Davis, junior Lyric Guillory, senior Andreani Garcis and others on this talented Hutto roster.

Heading into district matches scheduled for Sept. 19, there is currently a logjam as the top four teams all currently have two wins apiece with Hutto, Weiss, Midway High School (Waco) and Copperas Cove High School.

The Lady Hippos are now 16-14 overall and have two district victories over Bryan High School and Harker Heights. Hutto travels for a pivotal road district match on Tuesday at Temple High School before returning home at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening to host Midway.
