GRANGER — The Granger High School varsity football team found its way back into the win column last Friday at home as the Lions pounded Goldthwaite High School 35-6 at The Lions’ Den on Military and First Responders Night. Next up on the radar, the Lions (3-1 overall record) will have Thursday Night Lights at 7 p.m. this week as Granger will take on Bruni High School. However, this game between the Lions and Badgers will be played down south at neutral site Kenedy High School.

On the evening against the Goldthwaite Eagles, senior quarterback Chase Edwards threw for 221 yards on 15-of-21 passing attempts for four touchdowns to help lead Granger to a resounding victory. He also rushed for 41 yards and one score on the ground.

Expect Edwards to do his thing with the Granger offense against Bruni this week and from his linebacker spot on defense. The Lions led 27-0 at halftime, cruised in the second half behind a stellar defensive effort and did not let Goldthwaite score until late in the fourth quarter when the game was already far out of reach.

The Badgers (1-3 overall record) snapped a three-game losing streak this past week as Bruni hosted Kaufer Riviera High School and routed the Seahawks 38-8. Granger should be able to win this game with ease, enter its bye week and then start 2A-2 District 13 play at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6 as the Lions host Iola High School for Homecoming.
