HUTTO – Several area high school students took part April 20, in Texas State Technical College’s National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day at the East Williamson County campus. “It is an amazing day celebrating the students’ success,” said Stuart Van Orden, TSTC’s regional director of student recruitment.

Anita Volek presented her 37th annual spring piano recital Monday evening, May 22, in the Worship Center of First Baptist Church in Taylor. The evening featured a variety of piano solos and duets ranging from pop and movie themes to classical selections.

Students at Taylor Independent School District have finished their final semester at the Taylor Achievement Student Center. By finishing the semester, students received their course completion certificates,which state that they have completed all academic course requirements to graduate high school.

HUTTO – More than 40 graduates from Texas State Technical College’s East Williamson County campus received associate degrees and certificates of completion at TSTC’s Spring 2023 Commencement held Tuesday, April 25, at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Round Rock.

FORT WORTH – Earlier this month, St. Mary’s Catholic School students showed they are some of the best students in the state.

Last week, Good Strangers was filled with men and women in blue as well as local residents chatting, taking selfies, and enjoying a cup of joe. More than 30 community members, including District 2 Councilman Mitch Drummond and city staff, attended the latest edition of “Coffee with a Cop,” which was held from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Earlier this month, students from Taylor High School and Legacy Early College High School were named as Rotary Scholars by the Taylor Rotary Club. The Rotary Club of Taylor has recognized the top 10% of the community’s graduating seniors since it created the student loan fund in 1923.

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Samsung representatives Michele Glaze and Wesley King stopped by Taylor High School to thank the staff for all they do for students every day. Samsung provided a catered lunch for the staff, and Glaze and King presented them with a signed banner of appreciation.

COUPLAND – The Type Church congregation is enjoying new comfortable chairs that recently replaced the pews in the sanctuary. Charlene Hanson Jordan reports, “The old Camp Swift barracks building that served as the sanctuary when the present church was first established in the 1980s has been torn down.

Spring is a busy time of year for nature, and the landscape has woken up. Plants are vigorously growing thanks to the longer, warmer days.

Every year, the city pays tribute to the foundation of Taylor, the land and the people. The Blackland Prairie Day festival is Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m.

This Friday, kick up a storm at Georgetown’s signature annual event, the Red Poppy Festival. The festival opens at 6 p.m.
