HUTTO – Several area high school students
took part April 20, in Texas State Technical College’s National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day at the East Williamson County campus.
“It is an amazing day celebrating the students’ success,” said Stuart Van Orden, TSTC’s regional director of student recruitment.
The students, many of whom brought relatives with them, sat at two tables on the third floor of the East Williamson County Higher Education Center and signed TSTC letters of intent. Students promised to “do my best in learning the high-demand technical skills needed to secure a great-paying job in my chosen technical program,” according to the letter of intent.
Johnathan Robles, a senior at Taylor High School, took dual enrollment classes through TSTC’s Welding Technology program and will continue in the fall working toward an associate degree.
He said he chose TSTC because it is close to where he lives and he knows he can utilize the college’s connections to industry to find a job when he graduates.
“I feel happy and proud of myself,” Robles said.
Robles’ mother, Angie, was also excited.
“I have always encouraged him to go for whatever he would go for in school and continue on to get an education,” she said.
Nelson Adams, associate provost of TSTC’s East Williamson County campus, said he was proud that many of the incoming students already have jobs associated with their chosen technical programs.
