FORT WORTH – Students attending St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale — including some from Taylor — brought back honors after competing in a challenging state meet, educators said.
The pupils received the accolades following the Private Schools Interscholastic Association’s competition at Texas Christian University May 6.
Taylor resident Bridget Weber won first place in ready writing.
PSIA is an academic competition for private, parochial and home schools from across the state featuring 19 different academic contests.
“I’m so proud of how hard our students worked to prepare for their events. They practiced once a week with their coaches and also spent countless hours at home preparing,” said Principal Becky Cavage. “It was great to see their hard work pay off and so many of them place so well at state.”
Bridget, a fourth grader, also took a fifthplace medal in listening skills and a sixth-place medal in spelling.
St. Paul had a total of 20 competitors qualify for the state competition, many of them participating in multiple events.
The school’s elementary took eighth place overall.
The other Taylor competitors included: • Jonah Norvell – fifth place in maps, graphs and charts
• Lukas Gates – second place in science
• John Oliver Norvell – eighth place in number sense
• Luke Manuel – eighth place in spelling
• Kaden Kuhl – spelling and calculator applications • Jack Manuel – storytelling • Reagan Cooper – eighth place in ready writing
