The Williamson County Retired Teachers Association (WCRTA) celebrated their 50th anniversary June 10 at their June meeting. Held in the Taylor ISD Event Center, the retired teachers received a proclamation from the state of Texas and celebrated with banners, balloons, cake and a toast to the past 50 years with excitement about the future.

Juneteenth events celebrate freedom, history, hope

Known as “a second Independence Day,” Juneteenth will be celebrated this weekend with events in Fannie Robinson Park in Taylor. The Welfare Workers Club will present the Emancipation Day Juneteenth 2022 Weekend Celebration June 17-18 at the Dickey Community Center in Robinson Park.

Hutto begins city manager process

HUTTO – At a special called city council meeting this past Thursday, June 9, the Hutto city council released the plans on filling the city manager position. On Thursday, June 23, the Hutto City Council will release the names of the five or six candidates for the city manager position.

Downtown Taylor is set to host the third of a relatively new annual festival. Taylor Pride, an LGBTQ advocacy organization for the Taylor area, is holding it second in-person pride celebration Saturday, June 25, from 2 to 10 p.m.

SLUGGING THE SUMMER This past weekend, June 3-5, the six and under Taylor Area Softball & Baseball through Pony players played in a double elimination tournament that provided players with the opportunity to have post season play. The tournament consisted of the Thorndale Bulldogs, Taylor Ducks, Taylor Bulldozers, Taylor Legends and the Taylor Brewers.

Compton tabbed to lead Hippos

Just after lunch on Wednesday, June 8, Hutto ISD named Coach Will Compton as the replacement for Coach Brad LaPlante as the Hippos next head football coach and boys athletic coordinator. Coach Compton comes to Hutto from Hays CISD’s Johnson High School in Buda.
