There’s still time to ask one of Taylor’s protectors about how he protects the community and more. The seventh episode of the Taylor Press video interview series with city of Taylor staff, “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington,” will be Monday, June 13, at noon on the Taylor Press Facebook page.

Perfect plants for summer heat

Summer’s brutal temperatures are here and heat waves present additional challenges for new planting in the garden. The planting window has closed for many of our summer favorites, but with a little extra attention we can grow these tough, heat-loving crops: southern peas, sweet potato slips, okra, cantaloupe, pumpkins and warm-season greens.

Chief Jeff Yarbrough stated at the Hutto City Council meeting on June 2 the COPS hiring program (CHP), a grant subsidy of the U.S. Department of Justice, delivered for them authorization of a new grant resolution that will help with expectations to “keep our community safe for our citizens, business and visitors.”

City tax exemption going up

Taylor’s most vulnerable citizens are set to have some financial relief next tax season. On Thursday, June 9, the Taylor City Council introduced an ordinance to increase the Over 65 Tax Exemption to $40,000 and establish a disabled persons exemption of $40,000.

‘TITAN’ ON THE WAY

Nearly on the heels of Taylor landing a future Samsung semiconductor facility, Hutto is joining the high-tech party. On June 8, Hutto’s municipal government and Titan Development announced the latter’s purchase of the Hutto Mega TechCenter from the city.
