A local officer took his skills from patrolling streets to athletic competition.

Officer Randy Wheeler competed in the Texas Police Games in San Angelo Monday, June 13. The Hutto Police Department member won the silver medal.

Wheeler has competed nine times at the Texas Police Games. With this year’s silver medal, his medal count is three gold, two silver and two bronze. He was slated to defend his title as the Texas Police Games CrossFit Champion after winning gold in the event the last 3 years. The Police CrossFit event was cancelled this year, however.

After serving in Odessa for five years as an officer SWAT team member, Wheeler is now a 14-year veteran of the Hutto Police Department. According to HPD, he is known for his “Dwayne The Rock Johnson Fitness Tenacity,” so he signed up to compete in a grueling police obstacle course event.
