The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor held commencement services for the fall 2021 semester on Dec. 3 at the Bell County Expo Center, and several students from east Williamson County were among the graduates.

Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the dean's list designation for the 2021 fall semester. Taylor residents on the dean’s list include Makayla Benkula, majoring in criminal justice; Andrew Dille, animal science; Alyssa Nira, interdisciplinary studies; and Tristan White, English.

More than 1,300 students were named to the fall 2021 dean's list at Abilene Christian University, including a local resident. Tori Tschoepe, of Hutto, a junior majoring in psychology, made the dean’s list at ACU.

Friday afternoon, firefighters from the area helped contain a fire at the Balcones Resources building, 9801 Chandler Road in Taylor. No injuries were reported.

For the second consecutive year, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day march and celebration will not be held in-person. Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, the MLK Day committee made the decision to cancel this year’s march.
