Easter is just around the corner, and eggs will be hidden in the Hole in south Taylor again this year.

The Braided Faded Crew will host its ninth annual Hood Hunt on Easter, April 17, at 2 p.m. in Fannie Robinson Park also know as the Hole.

“We’re coming back this year, same place same time,” said Shareeta Fairley, founder of the Braided Faded Crew. “Something different happens every single year. Each year, the community comes together and supports us more and more.”

Similar to previous years, there will be five different Easter egg hunts. The hunts will be separated by age categories and will end with the mega hunt, which included all ages.

Each hunt will feature eggs with money inside. There will also be two vouchers for braids and haircuts in each hunt, except for the baby hunt. The traditional golden eggs will have a unique twist in prizes this year.

“Some of the ladies have gone off to have their own black-owned businesses, so they are going to incorporate some of the things they do with their businesses,” Fairley said. “You might win a custom cake, a set of cupcakes, a Braided Faded Crew shirt. You may win a custom tumbler or something like that.”

Some of the prizes will be catered to adults such as restaurant gift cards and esthetician services.

“We have a lot of good prizes,” Fairley said. “I want to give props where props are due. I’m very proud of the ladies that are in the group that have ventured on to have their own black businesses. That’s more than the value of money, because they have grown in the organization and are still able to give back to the community.”

After the tragic loss of a member this year, Frank Fields, the Braided Faded Crew plans to honor his memory during the event. Prior to the mega hunt, there will be a balloon release in Field’s memory.

“He touched a lot of hearts. You are more than welcome to bring a balloon to get in on the release with us,” Fairley said. “For us, it will be our way of saying we remember, and we never will forget you.”

The Crew plans to have a private memorial recognition at Fields’ grave site before the hood hunt begins.

“Everyone loved him as well, so we’ll do one at the Easter egg hunt too,” Fairley said.

Donations are still being accepted for the Hood Hunt. Crew members will be available to accept donations, or they can be dropped off at the Taylor Press.

Anyone who would like to donate can contact Fairley through Facebook messenger or by calling 512-736- 7249.
