Candidate forum set for April 12

Residents of Taylor will have an opportunity to hear from the candidates for elective office at a local candidate forum Tuesday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. People have the choice again this year of seeing it in person at the Taylor ISD Events Center at 3101 N.

Residents of Taylor will have an opportunity to hear from the candidates for elective office at a local candidate forum Tuesday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m.

People have the choice again this year of seeing it in person at the Taylor ISD Events Center at 3101 N. Main St. or watching live on the Taylor Press Facebook Page.

“The Chamber and the Taylor Press present this forum every year because we believe that voters need to have a strong connection to their local leaders because they have an enormous impact on residents’ daily lives,” Chamber President Tia Rae Stone said.

The only contended race on the ballot this year is for District 1 on the Taylor City Council where Stan Werner is challenging incumbent Gerald Anderson.

Both candidates have agreed to attend the forum.

The Taylor Press and Chamber will have some questions of their own but are also interested in hearing suggested questions from the public.

“This is an opportunity for voters to ask questions,” said Jason Hennington, publisher of the Taylor Press. “But you have to send them to have them asked.”

Questions are welcomed with the subject line “Question for Candidate” sent to [email protected] prior to 5 p.m. Monday, April 11. Questions will not be accepted online during the event.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the forum will begin promptly at 6:30.

Election Day for these offices is Saturday, May 7, and early voting begins April 25.

Look for a voter’s guide in the Sunday, April 24 edition of the Taylor Press.
