Williamson County has reaffirmed a burn ban that was issued earlier this month.
On April 5, Commissioners Court approved a countywide burn ban for 90 days. County Judge Bill Gravell has the authority to lift the order banning outdoor burning if conditions improve.
The court had extended a local state of disaster declaration for the county April 1. The declaration is due to reportedly dry vegetation, wind and imminent threat of severe damage.
The order prohibits outdoor burning in all of the unincorporated areas of Williamson County and smoking at Williamson County parks, preserves and trails.
Violations of the order include when someone burns any combustible material outside of an enclosure that can contain all flames or sparks, or when someone orders such burning by others. Residents are not allowed to burn household yard waste, such as leaves, grass, brush and other yard trimmings. Burning to clear land of trees, stumps, shrubbery, other natural vegetation and other types of debris is also prohibited.
In accordance with Local Government Code, a person who knowingly or intentionally violates this order commits a Class C Misdemeanor. Fines are up to $500.
