GATESVILLE – Despite an incredible start in the first quarter, the Taylor Ducks let one slip away on the road Friday night as they were edged 34-27 by the Hornets of Gatesville High School. “We beat ourselves tonight with costly penalties, being undisciplined and things like that,” Taylor head coach Earven Flowers said to his players after the game.

GRANGER – The roar of the Lions could be heard all throughout Granger, as the Granger Lions looked dominant in their 57-8 win over the Hubbard Jaguars Friday night. “Tonight was something we can build on,” Lions head coach Stephen Brosch said.

HUTTO – The Stars and Stripes were flying high Friday night in Hutto, as was the local football team, as they defeated the San Marcos Rattlers 66-35 for their first win of the season. “We played passionate, and we played physical, now we just have to clean up some discipline and detail aspects then the sky is the limit,” Hippos head coach Will Compton said.

THRALL – Tuesday night’s matchup between the Thrall Tigerettes (13-2) and Troy Trojanettes (10-6) was a battle of Top 20 teams. The Tigerettes entered the match ranked fifth in Class 2A in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, while Troy was ranked nineteenth in Class 3A.

Taylor High School varsity volleyball had its second home match of the season on Tuesday night in front of a packed gym as the Lady Ducks hosted Granger High School and swept the Lady Lions in three straight sets: 25-23, 25-9 and 25-14 to seal the deal.

CEDAR PARK – The Taylor High School boys and girls varsity cross country teams competed on Friday morning at the Vista Ridge Invitational meet held in Cedar Park. The Ducks had seven runners put in work in 1A-4A as the boys placed fifth out of 12 schools entered with 183 points in the meet, while the Lady Ducks also did well as the girls entered nine girls and placed eighth out of 14 schools who qualified enough runners with 218 points.

ROCKDALE – The Taylor High School varsity and junior varsity cross country teams put all their hard work over the summer to the test on Aug. 18 as the Ducks and Lady Ducks competed on Friday morning at the Rockdale Invitational meet hosted by Rockdale High School.

FRANKLIN – The Taylor High School varsity football team made the trip to Franklin High School on Thursday evening as the Ducks certainly had their work cut out for them against an elite Lions team that has won 32 straight games over the past two seasons that resulted in two straight state championships.

THRALL – Two weeks into the 2023 season, the Thrall Tigerettes varsity team remains unbeaten. The Tigerettes ran their season record to 9-0 Tuesday night after a 25-23, 25-17, 25-8 sweep of the Lexington Lady Eagles (5-5).

Two-a-days are in the books, along with two scrimmages. Now it’s game time and the Thrall Tigers are ready to hit the field and make some noise.

AUSTIN – The Hutto High School varsity football team got its first scrimmage of the fall on Thursday night as the Hippos traveled to take on one of the best teams in the state with Vandegrift High School.

GEORGETOWN – The Taylor High School varsity volleyball team picked up a handful of victories Aug. 10-12 as the Lady Ducks competed at a tournament hosted in Georgetown.

The Taylor High School football program had its opening scrimmages under first-year head coach Earven Flowers on a scorching hot Friday night as the Ducks hosted Cameron Yoe High School at The Duck Pond.

The Taylor Lions Club will host a golf tournament at Mustang Creek Golf Course Saturday, Aug. 26 at 1100 Beech St.

Despite having to replace a tremendous amount of talent, the Thrall Tigerettes looked in near mid-season form in Tuesday’s season-opening matches against Lago Vista and Cameron. The Tigerettes had to replace six seniors, including five key players, from last year’s squad, but it appeared that would be just one more challenge the team was up for.
