La Grange powers past Taylor

LA GRANGE — The Taylor High School boys varsity basketball team continued 4A-District 22 play on the road Tuesday, Jan. 23 and the Ducks fell 64-46 to the Leopards of La Grange High School.

The Ducks got into a large first-half deficit as they trailed the Leopards 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and were down 38-13 at halftime. Although Taylor made a 21-13 run in the third quarter, La Grange was able to keep Taylor at bay.

Leopards standout senior Nathan Scott had a double-double as he went off for a gamehigh 38 points and 13 rebounds. Scott has combined to score 75 points in two district games against Taylor this 2023-24 season.

For the Ducks, senior Treos Richardson had 12 points to go along with six rebounds and five blocked shots, while junior Eli Laurence also scored 12 points and nabbed four rebounds.

Taylor senior Antonio Torres scored eight points and had a team-high five assists, while junior Kylon Harris finished with eight points and three rebounds against La Grange.

The Ducks (9-16 overall, 4-3 in district play) under Head Coach Stephen Gibson will next be in action Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. for a pivotal home district matchup versus Giddings High School. Taylor last got the best of the Buffaloes on the road Jan. 5 with a gritty 51-49 victory.
