Taylor and Thrall flex at wildcat Invitational

ELGIN — The Taylor High School and Thrall High School varsity powerlifting teams were in action Saturday, Jan. 27 as both schools traveled to the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Elgin High School to compete in the squat, bench press and deadlift.

TAYLOR LADY DUCKS

The Taylor girls placed seventh out of 18 total schools in attendance as the Lady Ducks took home one gold medal, one silver medal, one bronze medal and a fifth-place finisher in their respective weight classes.

Krista Randig was victorious for Taylor in the 242-pound class as she lifted 920 total pounds, Rylie Dlouhy was the runner-up in the 114-pound class with 765 total pounds lifted, Eliana Aleman won bronze in the 132-pound class with 695 total pounds lifted and Zoe Moore placed fifth in the 114-pound class with 575 total pounds lifted.

TAYLOR DUCKS

The Ducks had two lifters take home silver medals and two more place fifth for Taylor. Ernest Alderete was the runnerup in the 308-pound class with 1,600 total pounds lifted, Antonio Estrada also placed second in the 123-pound class with 725 total pounds lifted, Luciano Arias placed fifth in the 165-pound class with 1,090 total pounds lifted and Miguel Nino was a fifthplace finisher in the 132-pound class with 830 total pounds lifted.

THRALL TIGERETTES

The Thrall girls placed eighth as a team as the Tigerettes had one gold medalist, one fourthplace finisher and two girls placed fifth. Avery Koonce was the winner of the 105-pound class with 620 total pounds lifted, Talia Yanez came in fourth place in the 105-pound class with 535 total pounds lifted, Cora Leon placed fifth in the 242-and-over class with 895 total pounds lifted and Dakota Johnson was a fifth-place finisher in the 198-pound class with 705 total pounds lifted.

THRALL TIGERS

The Tigers had Fidensio Salazar place fifth in the 123-pound class with 610 total pounds lifted, while Ty Mathews also represented Thrall in the 148-pound class in sixth place with 920 total pounds lifted.

Taylor powerlifting will next compete Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Smithville Tiger Invitational and Thrall will have a qualifiers meet in February at a date and site still to be determined. Check out the official THSPA and THSWPA websites for full meet results this season.
