Taylor to LMU: O’Dell ready for softball season

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Taylor High School alumnus Lindsay O’Dell is gearing up for her 2023-24 sophomore season for the Loyola Marymount University softball program.

O’Dell was a standout pitcher for the Lady Ducks, racking up a school-record 788 career strikeouts in a Taylor uniform. As a senior following the 2021-22 season, she was named the 4A-District 19 Pitcher of the Year and was a 2022 All-CenTex softball selection.

As a freshman during the 2022-23 campaign for LMU, O’Dell made 18 appearances and eight starts in the circle for the Lions. She finished with a 4-2 record, a 3.53 earned run average and 15 strikeouts in 43.1 innings pitched.

O’Dell was one of 10 Lions who were honored by being included in the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes list for the 2022-23 academic year. This achievement required the student-athletes to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the academic year.

The 2022-23 LMU softball team was the West Coast Conference champions, going 28-22 overall with a 12-3 record in conference play. The Lions advanced to the 2023 Stanford Regional tournament and were edged 3-2 by the No. 6 Florida Gators, defeated Long Beach State University 2-1 to stay alive and were eliminated with a hard-fought 10-6 loss to Florida.

O’Dell and LMU are set to begin the 2023-24 softball season Friday, Feb. 9 with a doubleheader on the road against California State University-Northridge.
