The Taylor High School varsity football senior duo of quarterback Joshua Mikulencak and wide receiver Jacob Mikulencak both made an announcement Friday, Jan. 26 that they would be continuing their football careers at Navarro College in Corsicana.
“First off, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the talent and opportunity to play at the next level,” Joshua said on X. “I would also like to thank my mom, parents, friends and coaches for supporting me through this whole journey. Lastly, I would like to thank all the coaches who took time out and recruited me.”
Joshua was at the helm of the Ducks’ offense during the 2023 season and threw for 3,212 yards on 199-of-312 passing attempts, 28 touchdowns and just five interceptions in 11 games. He also was a threat on the ground and rushed for 315 yards and nine scores on 64 carries.
Jacob was also a dynamic part of the Taylor offense in 2023 as he hauled in 62 receptions, was first on the team with 1,266 yards receiving and caught a team-high 14 touchdowns.
For this Taylor football program under Head Coach Earven Flowers, the Mikulencak brothers helped lead the Ducks to the postseason for the second straight year.
“It’s a cool deal because it is rare that a school takes a chance on two kids from the same school,” Flowers said. “Navarro is one of the best JUCOs in Texas and JUCO football is the closest level to Division 1 football. Navarro just doesn’t take anyone, so for Jake and Josh to receive a full ride to Navarro is amazing. This is a testament to their talent and hard work. I look forward to them having the same type of success that they had here at Taylor. It is a blessing to watch our athletes use their talents to play a child’s game and receive a free education.”
