Taylor’s first ever “Break the Silence 3K Walk/Run and Kid’s Fun Run” featured perfect weather, live music, presentations, free food and plenty of giveaways, providing laughter and fun for the whole family. But the event, which was held April 15 in Murphy Park and created to raise awareness about childhood sexual abuse, also caused some participants to trade hugs and even shed a few tears, as they remembered.

City still dealing with $5.3 million bill for storm cleanup

NICOLE LESSIN [email protected] So far, it doesn’t look like FEMA will be reimbursing the city any time soon for millions of dollars of unplanned expenditures for Winter Storm Mara, and several projects for this fiscal year are being put on hold temporarily as a result of the cost. At the April 13 meeting, the Taylor City Council approved moving forward with amending this year’s budget to account for the approximately $5.2 million the city has had to shell out for debris removal and other costs associated with storm cleanup.

Speedy Ducks grab district titles

The Taylor Ducks boys and girls track team competed at the District 22-4A Track Meet at Taylor High School and they walked away with a couple of district championship wins. The Ducks also had multiple athletes qualify for the area meet, putting them one step closer to the state championship.

Ducks trample Buffaloes in extra innings

GIDDINGS – Sound defense and timely offense helped the Taylor Ducks fly past the Giddings Buffaloes for their 19th win of the season. The Ducks overcame the big obstacle of giving up six runs in the fourth inning to take home a 10-7 win on the road.

House OKs $302 billion budget

The Texas House approved a $302 billion budget last week that included an amendment prohibiting the use of state money on private school tuition — a major setback to Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to establish a school voucher system. The Austin American-Statesman reported that more than 20 Republicans joined nearly all House Democrats to pass the amendment, while 11 lawmakers voted present.
