Record sea temps could spur more hurricanes

Forecasters for the National Weather Service are anticipating a more active hurricane season this year because of record-warm ocean surface temperatures, the Texas Tribune reported. Hurricane season runs through the end of November.

For next year’s budget, city property taxes will rise by about 5.2 percent thanks to higher values, but not as much as in the surrounding communities — and they will be collected at a much lower tax rate, say city leaders.

According to data done in 2016 by the American Farmland Trust, an organization designed to protect farmland and ranchland, the county is projected to lose nearly 58,000 acres of farmland to conversion by 2040 under current trends.

District to purchase land for third high school

HUTTO – As part of the 2023 Bond, voters gave Hutto Independent School District the green light to purchase land for future schools, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Henry Gideon explained in his presentation to the Board of Trustees at their Aug. 10 meeting. In support of that, the district put a contract on 114.883 acres located at 9500 State Highway 130, as the site for a potential third high school.
