GRANGER — Following a tough road loss to Thrall High School on Sept. 26 to open district play, the Granger High School varsity volleyball team bounced back on Saturday at home with a huge victory vs. Holland High School in five sets.
The Lady Lions had to come back on multiple occasions on Saturday against the Lady Hornets but were able to get the job done in clutch fashion. After Holland won the first set 25-21, Granger was able to knot the match up at 1-1 when it took the second set 25-19. However, the Lady Hornets backed the Lady Lions against the wall in another gritty set that saw Holland take it 25-20. Granger continued to play hard in a backand- forth match to rebound in the fourth set to win 25-20 forcing a decisive fifth set. The Lady Lions proved to be too much for the Lady Hornets in the fifth set as Granger cruised 15-7 to complete the comeback victory over Holland at home. Granger senior Tessa Burton, daughter of head coach Margie Burton, continues to have an outstanding season for the Lady Lions as they improved to 13-14 overall with a 1-1 mark in District 26-2A matches. Juniors Sofia Bernal and Marissa Hall are providing great depth as playmakers, while sophomores Krista Hutka and Abigail Crouch are solid blockers at the net. After another district match at Thorndale High School on Tuesday night, the Lady Lions will return home at 1 p.m. on Saturday to host Bartlett High School.
