EDC CEO Thomas announces retirement

A key figure involved in bringing Samsung Austin Semiconductor to Taylor is retiring this fall. At the regular meeting of the Taylor City Council, Mark Thomas, the CEO of Taylor’s Economic Development Corporation, announced his plans to step down from his position in the next two months as he highlighted his department’s budget for next year.

Council approves FY ’24 budget

Taylor has a brand-new budget for Fiscal Year 2024, featuring funds for additional emergency services personnel, a 3% cost-of-living increase for staff, an increase in the homestead exemption and plans to get started on a new $53 million municipal building that will house City Hall, the Police Department and Municipal Court.

The partnership between Samsung Austin Semiconductor and Taylor Independent School District added another chapter. The semiconductor company presented Taylor ISD’s board of trustees a $110,000 check to provide incentives to reward the staff for innovation and performance in STEM during the Aug.

Council reprimands mayor

HUTTO – Mayor Mike Snyder received an official reprimand from the city for posting a list of mortgage banks used by council members on social media. The censure stemmed from a Facebook post the mayor made Aug. 21. The list did not identify which council members had loans at which bank or the amount of the loans.
