GRANGER — The Lady Lions achieved another district victory on Saturday as the Granger High School varsity volleyball team handled business in a 2A-District 26 match with Bartlett High School. Granger made a push towards the playoffs with a home win in four sets: 25-21, 17-25, 25-15 and a dominant 25-9 victory in the fourth set to seal the deal.
Despite a setback in the second set that saw the Lassies unexpectedly tie this match at 1-1, the host Lady Lions flexed their muscle the rest of the way in the final two sets.
Granger was led by a superb effort from senior Jaila Rollie, who was crowned as the Homecoming queen at the previous night’s football game, as she had a match-high 11 kills, five aces, five blocked shots and five digs in the victory over Bartlett.
The Lady Lions also got a great all-around match from senior Tessa Burton who had a match-high seven aces, a whopping 18 assists, six digs and four kills at the net. Granger junior Sofia Bernal had six kills and nine digs on the afternoon, while the duo of Kelsey Dittrich and sophomore Abigail Crouch added four kills of their own.
Under head coach Margie Burton, the Lady Lions now sit with a 14-15 overall record with a 3-3 mark in district play. Currently third place in the district standings, Granger will follow a non-district road match at Florence High School with a huge district home match on Saturday afternoon hosting top district seed Thrall High School.
