THORNDALE — The Granger High School varsity volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking loss on Tuesday night as the Lady Lions were defeated in a back-andforth district contest at Thorndale High School.
The Lady Lions got off to a fantastic start in this match by taking the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21 over the host Lady Dogs. Unfortunately for Granger, Thorndale was really able to get it going after that as the Lady Dogs bounced back by taking the third and fourth sets 25-19 and 25-22, respectively, to force a decisive fifth set.
Thorndale was too much down the stretch of this match for Granger as the Lady Dogs were able to cruise to a 15-6 victory in the fifth set over the Lady Lions.
Despite the loss, Granger fought very hard all night and got a great match from its senior duo of Tessa Burton and Jaila Rollie, while juniors Sofia Bernal and Marissa Hall continue to be playmakers all over the court with their defensive presence.
The Lady Lions (13-15 overall record with a 1-2 mark in District 26-2A play) should be able to bounce back at home Saturday vs. Bartlett High School. Granger will then have a nondistrict match on Tuesday night at Florence High School.
