GRANGER — The Granger High School varsity football team will have a huge 2A-2 District 13 matchup at 7 p.m. on Friday night as the Lions travel to Bremond High School.
The Lions (5-1 overall record and 1-0 mark in district play) are coming off of a gritty 23-14 victory on Homecoming against Iola High School as the defense once again got the job done.
Although the Lions’ offense didn’t have its best game on the night, the defense really stepped up and held Iola to just 147 yards of total offense. Senior safety Isaac Lizardo, who was also crowned at halftime as the Homecoming king, recorded an interception on defense.
Granger senior quarterback Chase Edwards had himself a superb night running both the offense and shutting down opposing players on defense.
“His leadership on both sides of the football is remarkable,” head coach Stephen Brosch said of Edwards. “Defensively, the lateral and downhill speed and quickness he displays play in and play out is some of the quickest I’ve ever had the pleasure of coaching.”
Expect Edwards and his weapons on offense to be a major factory on Friday in Bremond as the Lions will have their work cut out for them against an opponent who has lost its three games by a combined 12 points this season.
Bremond will be a tough opponent as the Tigers (3-3 overall and 0-1 in district) lost a 28-27 heartbreaker at home to Chilton High School, who was the district champion last season and remains undefeated at 6-0 this year.
