City seeks federal grant for nine new firefighters

The city is seeking federal assistance to hire nine new firefighters in the next fiscal year. At the March 9 meeting, the Taylor City Council unanimously approved Fire Chief Daniel Baum’s recommendation to apply for a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant by March 17 to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for full salary and benefits for the nine positions over three years.

The Leo Livingston Fund grant committee is actively accepting applications to help local non-profit organizations again this year. The Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley administers a charitable endowment fund that was created in memory of Leo Livingston by his wife Doris Livingston, benefits nonprofit organizations in the Taylor community.

Brayden Michna, a native of Taylor, has begun to blaze a nice career for himself in the sport of tennis. “I am from Taylor, born and raised, and I remember my love of tennis started because I just like to hit things,” Michna said while chuckling.

Los Patos crowned district champs

Los Patos staked their claim as the best team in the district capping off an 11-0 record with their recent game at the Duck Pond. The Taylor Ducks boys’ varsity soccer team was crowned district champions after defeating the Manor New Tech Titans 3-1 at home Tuesday night.

Ducks shut out Mustangs on the road

MADISONVILLE – The Taylor Ducks (11-0) defeated the Madisonville Mustangs (8-2) Wednesday after three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. To finish the game,Taylor’s Cohen Tyree struck out Christian Bustamante leading to the final score of 3-0.

Late rally sinks Tigerettes

THRALL – The Milano Lady Eagles (10-5-1 overall, 2-0 District 27-2A) scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night, and rallied past the Thrall Tigerettes (7-62, 1-1) 9-8. Milano took the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

Tigers roll over Eagles in district opener

For the third time in their last four games, the Thrall Tigers (4-3 overall, 1-0 District 27-2A) scored in double figures Tuesday night. This time it was an 18-3 rout of the Milano Eagles in both teams’ district opener.
