Late rally sinks Tigerettes

THRALL – The Milano Lady Eagles (10-5-1 overall, 2-0 District 27-2A) scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night, and rallied past the Thrall Tigerettes (7-62, 1-1) 9-8. Milano took the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

THRALL – The Milano Lady Eagles (10-5-1 overall, 2-0 District 27-2A) scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night, and rallied past the Thrall Tigerettes (7-62, 1-1) 9-8.

Milano took the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Eagles picked up a pair of hits and a pair of walks to grab a 2-0 lead.

The lead remained 2-0 until the top of the third, when the Tigerettes pushed across their first run of the game. Neveah Irvin hit a one-out single and Riley Luton drew a walk to put a runner in scoring position.

Raelynn Johnson followed with a line shot to the shortstop for the second out, but Irvin was able to utilize her speed, tagging up to score and trim the lead to 2-1.

Thrall took the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Mikayla Velesquez hit a one-out double to center and scored on Luton’s triple to left to knot the score at two runs apiece.

Johnson brought in the go-ahead run on a single that scored Luton and Thrall had the lead.

The Tigerettes added to their lead in the sixth inning.

Miley Pokorny drew a lead-off walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Stephanie Widener. With two outs, Widener scored on a wild pitch to give the Tigerettes a 4-2 lead.

The Tigerettes widened their lead further in the seventh.

Irvin, who walked to lead off the inning, scored the first of three Thrall runs, when Johnson lined a double to left. Johnson later came in to score on a wild pitch. Ashlyn Jarosek also scored in the inning on another wild pitch after reaching on a single. The trio of runs gave the Tigerettes an 8-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh

inning.

In Milano’s half of the seventh, the rally started quickly. The Lady Eagles led off with a single, and with one out Toni Meyer took a two-strike pitch over the right-field fence. Milano followed Meyer’s blast with four straight singles and a double that tied the game at eight. A walk put the winning run aboard and another Lady Eagle single brought home the runner for the win.

Velesquez and Johnson led the Tigerettes at the plate, each picking up a pair of hits. Pokorny (3-3 took the loss, allowing nine runs on eight hits, and striking out five.

Thrall was back in action Friday, when they traveled to Holland (3-6, 0-1).
