Los Patos staked their claim as the best team in the district capping off an 11-0 record with their recent game at the Duck Pond.
The Taylor Ducks boys’ varsity soccer team was crowned district champions after defeating the Manor New Tech Titans 3-1 at home Tuesday night.
“Great team effort, great team chemistry,” Ducks head soccer coach Zach Gibson said. “The guys are killing it on and off the field and have been great this year in terms of buying into the vision of what type of program we want to be.”
The win was the Ducks 16th in a row and 11th straight in district play and winning the district championship is something Gibson said they have been working towards all season long. The Ducks believed and trusted one another to accomplish that goal and now they are on top of the mountain.
Gibson said he watched this team grow from day one this season, and is proud of how his young athletes developed into stars in their own way and how they did it as a team. In addition to winning district, the Ducks outscored everyone 45-3 in district play adding more notoriety to their dominant run.
“In reference to our play, the guys bought in early to the system I thought would best serve us this year and they’ve really blossomed the last few weeks into the type of high-level team they are capable of being,” Gibson said.
The Ducks have been playing at a high level all season, but elevated their game as of late, and Gibson said it is happening at the perfect time. Los Patos has been playing so well that the two losses earlier this season seem like a typo.
“It’s coming at a good time as we start to push forward into playoffs,” Gibson said.
The Ducks have one game left on their district schedule and Gibson said just because they won the district title does not mean the season is over for them. With a matchup against Caldwell looming in the distance and a tough playoff schedule ahead of them, Gibson knows his team is going to be tested but he is excited to see it play out.
“I am super proud of this group of guys thus far and we’re all excited for the playoffs,” Gibson said.
The Ducks will face Caldwell on Friday, Mar. 10, to round out the season but right after that, the Ducks will begin preparing for their first playoff match up on Friday, Mar. 24, against Waco La Vega.
