Former Hutto football star wins USFL Championship

CANTON, Ohio – Former Hutto High School varsity football standout wide receiver Davion Davis was a significant part of his current team winning the United States Football League Championship Game on Saturday, July 1, as the Birmingham Stallions defeated the Pittsburgh Maulers 28-12 at neutral site Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

Some of those killed in action in World Wars I and II

Carl Oscar Edward Carlson, born June 18, 1922, was a paratrooper in the 17th Airborne, killed in action March 24, 1945, within weeks of the end of World War II on May 8, 1945. The 17th Airborne Division, “The Golden Talons,” was an airborne infantry division of the United States Army with the motto “Thunder from Heaven.” Operation Plunder had begun in the evening of March 23.

Senate passes tax bill as second special session begins

The Texas Senate on the first day of the Legislature’s second special session unanimously passed a tax bill last Wednesday that increases the homestead exemption and includes a pay hike for teachers, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

On July 10 of last year, the historic home of Dr. James Lee Dickey was destroyed when it was burned to the ground. Although the home was destroyed, it did not stop the efforts of the Dickey Museum and Multipurpose Center board from moving forward.

Autopsy could reveal if body is missing man

Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine if a body found on the edge of a cornfield Thursday night is a man who went missing June 20. “We can speculate, but really there is not much point until after the autopsy,” said Joseph Branson, Support Services commander of the Taylor Police Department.
