CANTON, Ohio – Former Hutto High School varsity football standout wide receiver Davion Davis was a significant part of his current team winning the United States Football League Championship Game on Saturday, July 1, as the Birmingham Stallions defeated the Pittsburgh Maulers 28-12 at neutral site Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

With Birmingham trailing 3-0 in the second quarter, Davis was on the receiving end of the Stallions’ first touchdown of the night. Davis caught a deep 42-yard touchdown pass in which quarterback Alex McGough picked up the ball off a low snap and hit him with a perfect pass over the middle of the field for the score.

The Stallions, who finished 8-2 in the 2023 regular season, entered the playoffs as the defending USFL champion and were hungry to defend their title.

Davis was coming off a regular season in which he had 39 catches for 575 yards and four touchdowns but really turned it on during his two postseason games as he combined for eight catches, 130 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

As a senior during the 2014 season for Hutto, Davis was quite an incredible wide receiver for the Hippos as he helped lead them to an 11-3 record, a berth in the 5A regional finals and was an all-state honorable mention.

Davis had 73 catches for 1,259 yards and a whopping 18 receiving touchdowns while also rushing for 353 yards and six scores on the ground.

He continued his playing career at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville and was a star for the Bearkats as well. Over the course of the 201518 seasons at SHSU, Davis had himself a great four-year career for the Bearkats with 226 catches, 3,181 yards receiving and 40 touchdown receptions.

Davis was an undrafted free agent and has spent time in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans. After he played such a pivotal role for the Stallions this USFL season and his previous experience in the NFL, it would certainly seem that Davis would get another shot with an NFL team during training camp this summer.
