GEORGETOWN — Williamson County residents devastated by tornadoes in March and earlier this month just got a little more help. During a presentation at Tuesday’s Williamson County Commissioners Court meeting, the Williamson County Rural Relief Fund received a $35,000 boost from Austin Samsung Semiconductors and the Williamson County Farm Bureau.

WILCO – The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll not only on people’s physical health, but their mental health as well. In order to better address mental health care needs in the community, the Williamson County Commissioners Court partnered with Bluebonnet Trails Community Services (BTCS), the local mental health authority in Williamson County, on several projects that were funded through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act or American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is looking for pet-loving candidates to fill several vacant positions. Anyone interested in learning about working for the animal shelter is invited to attend a job fair on Thursday, April 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the shelter, 1855 S.E. Inner Loop in Georgetown.

HOUSTON – Students and faculty members from eight of Texas State Technical College’s campuses have converged on Houston for the SkillsUSA Texas Postsecondary Leadership and Skills Conference. The conference began with an opening ceremony held April 7 at the Omni Houston Hotel.

Parents of Lions and other residents in their den had a chance recently to learn more about the upcoming bond election for Granger Independent School District. Town hall meetings were held at Granger High School last week, April 5 and 7.

A popular Taylor trail could get a hike in improvements. On Thursday, April 14, the Taylor City Council will consider options for reconstruction of Bull Branch Trail as a 2022 capital improvement project.

Williamson County COVID-19 cases have had a slow uptick in the last few weeks, although some recent numbers include backlogs. Confirmed cases, which include past and current episodes reported to the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD), increased by 394 in the county April 5-11.
