At the April 27 meeting of the Taylor City Council, Jose Barraza, one of the volunteer coaches at Thunderbird Wrestling Club, which meets at Concept Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, 310 N. Main St., said grappling is still alive and well in the city. “We have a wrestling club that has been meeting for a couple of years,” said Barraza, who attended the meeting with his two boys, Vincent, 13 and Adrian, 11. “We grapple. We do folk style wrestling, which is kind of traditional kind of what evolved from Pet Brown, but Pet brown’s style still had submissions, which were dangerous locks. Throughout the years, they were taken out little by little to make the sport safer.” For more information, go to https://thunderbirdwrestling.com.
