Taylor’s own boxer Destiny “Too Sweet” Jones and her trainer David Watson joined Jason Hennington on last week’s edition of Around the Watercooler to talk about her most recent fight back on May 5 for the ABF InterContinental Super Featherweight Title held at Tech Port Arena down in San Antonio.

The Tigers and Tigerettes have a huge camp on deck next week that will be held for all incoming second to eighth-grade athletes. From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. over the course of May 30 – June 2, Thrall will have its 2023 All-Sports Camp which will cost $150.00 per camper. Boys will cycle between football, baseball, tennis, golf, track, weight training, and basketball.

Council OKs new events policy

The fallout from last year’s dueling holiday parades continues at City Hall. City leaders Thursday in a 4-1 vote approved a new city-events ordinance, despite a large contingent of area Christians showing up to voice their opposition and one councilman not yet on board.

TxDOT engineer highlights road projects

ELGIN – Growth is happening to the region at breakneck speed, but a lot of it is dependent upon how quickly roads can be built, expanded and made safer through partnerships with different agencies. Such was the message of Tucker Ferguson, the Austin district engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation, who gave an overview of transportation challenges and solutions for the area at the first ever METT Summit held at the Elgin Recreation Center May 18, which was organized by the Elgin, Manor and Taylor chambers of commerce.

City to oppose wastewater plant HUTTO – City council is opposing the permit for a wastewater treatment plant to be located near Veterans’ Hill Elementary School, 555 Limmer Loop, at the site of a future housing development. The application to build the privately-owned plant is being reviewed by the Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
