The First Baptist Church in Taylor will recognize their pastor for 25 years of service with the church. Pastor Anthony Watson came to Taylor in 1998 as the new pastor of First Baptist.

City falls behind on tree coverage HUTTO — The Texas A&M Forestry Service performs aerial measurements of how much city land is covered by a tree canopy. Tree coverage helps cities and property owners with energy conservation, stormwater control, cleaner air, cooler ambient temperatures, community wellbeing, property values and job creation, according to the agency.

Thursday morning, July 13, from 8 to 9 a.m., the East Williamson County Higher Education Center will host the Hutto Power Breakfast, 1600 Innovation Blvd., Hutto. The Power Breakfast is a monthly event encouraging networking.

The Rotary Club of Taylor has gone through a leadership change. A new president took the helm earlier this month.

To address inflation, market-driven personnel costs, as well as other major one-time projects on the horizon, Taylor’s 2024 budget is likely to swell by about 29 percent this year, city leaders said.

While the Taylor Independent School District gave its teachers the largest pay raise in the district’s history, it forced every other department to experience cuts. Taylor ISD’s budget, which the school board approved in a unanimous vote June 29, is balanced in respect to the general operating funds.

The annual Taylor Rodeo is just days away. Held every year since 1950, the rodeo begins this Thursday, July 13, and runs through Saturday, July 15.

On Monday, July 10, Taylor detectives received confirmation that the body found last week is the Taylor man who has been missing since June 20. Fingerprint comparison done by Hill Country Forensics matched the body to that of Adrian Zachary, 45, of Taylor.
