The First Baptist Church in Taylor will recognize their pastor for 25 years of service with the church.

Pastor Anthony Watson came to Taylor in 1998 as the new pastor of First Baptist. Since his arrival, he has made an impact on members of the church and the community.

“What I like most is that if you are tasked with something, he will trust you to do the job,” member Angelina Shelton said. “Not only does he trust you to do what it is you set out to do ... he equips you and encourages you.”

Rev. Larry Johnson agreed, and said the past 24 years at the church have been a great experience.

“I have grown so much in my walk with Jesus Christ,” Johnson said. “Pastor Watson is a dear friend, brother and an awesome man of God.”

Shelton and Johnson agree that Watson provides the tools for a person to be successful.

“He’s always going to be truthful and honest. He’s always encouraging,” Shelton said.

“He challenges you to be a better human being by how he walks and talks in Christ,” Johnson added.

A celebration service will be held Sunday July 23, during the 10:45 a.m. worship at The First Baptist Church, 300 N. Robinson Street. Pastor Forrest Alexander, of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church in Kirby, will be the guest speaker.

“Pastor Watson is a great leader,” Johnson said. “I am so thankful to God that he placed him in my life.”
