Hutto offers tips for National Public Works week

HUTTO – The city of Hutto joins organizations from around the country in recognizing National Public Works Week, celebrated this year from Sunday, May 21 through Saturday, May 27. The hard-working individuals within the city’s Public Works Department are divided into six main divisions – Construction Inspection, Facility Maintenance, Fleet Management, Regulatory Compliance, Streets and Drainage, and Water and Wastewater Utilities.

City to oppose wastewater plant HUTTO – City council is opposing the permit for a wastewater treatment plant to be located near Veterans’ Hill Elementary School, 555 Limmer Loop, at the site of a future housing development. The application to build the privately-owned plant is being reviewed by the Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Controversial policy back on council agenda

Will the third time be a charm? At their regular meeting May 25, the Taylor City Council will consider approving a controversial events policy that has been tabled twice in the face of pushback from Christian groups who have charged that the new regulation is aimed to discriminate against their rights. “This policy is needed because we did not have one,” said city spokeswoman Stacey Osborne.

Memorial Stadium in Hutto becoming regional resource

HUTTO – Between sports, band, physical education and other classes, up to 1,306 Hutto Independent School District students used Memorial Stadium at Hutto High School regularly throughout the school year, according to a report from Athletic Director Bradley LaPlante.

Memorial Day Sunset Block Party Friday, May 26 — From 6 to 9 p.m., Hutto’s Municipal Government will host Hutto Parks and Recreation for a block party at Fritz Park, 400 Park St. The event will observe a remembrance ceremony in honor of Memorial Day. There will be food trucks, vendors, live music and family-friendly activities.

The sentence should have read: “I would be happy to discuss other properties that are within the city’s intended growth areas and how we could work with you on plans for a housing development in one of those areas.”

County JPs to educate community

GEORGETOWN – What does a Justice of the Peace do once they have been elected? What is their role in county government? These questions and more will be answered at the Justice of the Peace Community Forum scheduled for Monday, June 5 at the Williamson County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 office, 100 Wilco Way in Georgetown. At the forum, guests will learn how a Justice of the Peace works with small claims, debt claims, Class C traffic violations, juvenile cases, death inquests, weddings and more.

Bills could limit county’s ability to plan

As the end of the 88th legislature grows near, new laws are on the horizon that could add to the development pressures the county is already facing, said one elected official. On Monday, May 15, Williamson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles said as the county becomes less rural due to the explosive growth associated with Samsung Austin Semiconductor and other factors, the state continues to push through bills that could limit its ability to plan.
