It’s beginning to look a lot like Starbucks

It’s a week before Christmas, and all up Main Street, people are awaiting lattes and cake pops to eat. On Monday, the Greater Taylor Chamber of Commerce is hosting an invitation-only ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the coffee retailer Starbucks, which will soon open across the street from the Taylor Independent School District Administrative offices and Main Street Intermediate School.

Autopsy: Suspicious death a homicide

The death of a 26-year-old man found sprawled in a yard earlier this week has been ruled a homicide, according to investigators. Enrique Lopez Estrada suffered a single wound from a .22-caliber bullet, and while no arrest was reported at press time, a person of interest has been developed, police said.

Christmas comes alive

Last weekend, Immanuel Lutheran Church came alive with the sights and sounds surrounding the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. As they have for more than a dozen years, hundreds of area visitors flocked to the church for “The Pilgrimage to Bethlehem: A Live Nativity” to be immersed in a spectacular, free production of the story of the first Christmas, featuring about 140 actors from 20 area churches wearing authentic first-century period costumes, as well as elaborate indoor and outdoor sets.

All-State honors

In addition to All-District honors a couple players from around the area found themselves on the All-State volleyball team as some of the top players in the state of Texas. Aailyah Couch and Melania Grissom from Thrall were both selected to be on the All-State team because of their elite play throughout the 2022 season.

Tigerettes excited about district

A year ago, the Thrall Tigerettes struggled to a 5-27 record and had difficulty putting points on the board. They opened district play with a win over Holland, then proceeded to drop their last nine district games. Oh, but what a difference a year makes. The Tigerettes enter District 27-2A play on Friday with an 11-7 overall record and are expecting great things in district.

Tigers take consolation in Florence

The Thrall Tigers posted a 2-1 record at the Florence tournament over the weekend, which was good enough to capture the consolation bracket. They also improved their season record to 5-6 on the season.
