Obaldo Perez

Obaldo Perez, 79, of Granger passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 21, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. Obaldo Perez was born Oct. 17, 1943, in San Saba, to Felipe and Estella (Acuña) Perez. He grew up with 12 siblings and attended school at Runge. He married his best friend, Beatrice Gonzales, July 2, 1962, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Taylor. They lost their first son, and later they were blessed with five beautiful children, Daniel, Sylvia, Gloria, Obaldo Jr. and Carmelita. In everything that he did, Obaldo worked extremely hard. In his earlier years, he worked as a cotton gin foreman in Tahoka. He also worked as a landscaper for Jonah Nursery. Later, he dedicated 13 years as a groundskeeper and maintenance for Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School. He then worked at Granger ISD for 16 years as maintenance, landscaper, security and then as school crossing guard making sure the students got to school and home safely until his final days.

WACO – Taylor High School varsity baseball had its incredible 2023 season come to a close this week as the Ducks were beaten by China Spring High School in a best-of-three series in the 4A Region 3 Finals at Baylor Ballpark with the Cougars advancing to the state tournament. GAME 1: TAYLOR 3, CHINA SPRING 0 If there was one game to show exactly how valuable Ducks junior pitcher Chris Perez was to this Taylor team all season, this was certainly the prime example as he did it all to guide the Ducks to a 3-0 shoutout win in Game 1 over China Spring on Wednesday night.

Hope is alive

Nonprofit expanding support for victims of sexual violence ROUND ROCK — Taylor native Marcus Reese is now an outspoken advocate for fellow survivors of sexual abuse and trauma, but one of the first steps of his healing journey began at a place called Hope. “You see there was a time, way before I made a police report, that I found myself in a mental health crisis,” Reese said as a featured speaker of the “Allies of Hope Awards Dinner” May 20 at Kalahari Resorts in support of Hope Alliance, Williamson County’s only resource center and shelter for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Property fraud alert program launched

WILCO – Property and mortgage fraud are the fastest-growing crimes in the country, according to the FBI, and even residents of smaller towns like Taylor are not immune. Williamson County Clerk’s Office is offering a free Property Fraud Alert program to help Wilco residents protect their homes or businesses.

Eight-year-old Augie Bidwell is gracing his neighbors with a new Little Free Library, crafted from a retired Taylor Press newspaper rack. The Taylor Press is a sister paper of the Elgin Courier, both owned by Granite Media Partners Inc.
