District starts school rezoning process HUTTO – With new schools on the horizon, Hutto Independent School District has begun looking at the process for rezoning school boundaries. The rezoning will start with middle schools to account for the opening of Gus Almquist Middle School in August 2024, but Henry Gideon, assistant superintendent of operations, wants to begin the process for the two new elementary schools and the new high school as well.

The Taylor City Council will hold the two required public hearings on increasing their pay in consecutive fashion. At the July 27 meeting, council members voted 3-2 to increase their own stipends from $25 to $1,000 per month and to $1,500 per month for the mayor’s position.

Despite having to replace a tremendous amount of talent, the Thrall Tigerettes looked in near mid-season form in Tuesday’s season-opening matches against Lago Vista and Cameron. The Tigerettes had to replace six seniors, including five key players, from last year’s squad, but it appeared that would be just one more challenge the team was up for.

Child care centers closing across state
Child care centers closing across state

An unprecedented number of child care centers are expected to close across the state as pandemic relief funding ends, the Texas Standard reported. A survey conducted by the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children of about 1,600 child care programs indicated 44% were likely to close their doors without additional funding. Federal pandemic relief funds ended for most centers in June.
