Taylor’s first ever “Break the Silence 3K Walk/Run and Kid’s Fun Run” featured perfect weather, live music, presentations, free food and plenty of giveaways, providing laughter and fun for the whole family. But the event, which was held April 15 in Murphy Park and created to raise awareness about childhood sexual abuse, also caused some participants to trade hugs and even shed a few tears, as they remembered.

NICOLE LESSIN [email protected] So far, it doesn’t look like FEMA will be reimbursing the city any time soon for millions of dollars of unplanned expenditures for Winter Storm Mara, and several projects for this fiscal year are being put on hold temporarily as a result of the cost. At the April 13 meeting, the Taylor City Council approved moving forward with amending this year’s budget to account for the approximately $5.2 million the city has had to shell out for debris removal and other costs associated with storm cleanup.

Shining a light to honor and remember

The new Century Club hosted its second annual Luminaries on the Square Friday, April 14, at Heritage Square in Taylor. The event was an opportunity to recognize, honor and remember those who have been impacted by cancer. This was also a fundraiser hosted by the New Century Club for the American Cancer Society. People purchased luminaria bags to decorate for their loved ones. During the lminaria ceremony, the bags had lights in them and a march around the park was led by the longest living cancer survivor.
