Livestock show awards championships

The Williamson County Livestock Association hosted FFA and 4H groups from area schools to show off the livestock they are raising at the Williamson County Expo Center. Students had the opportunity to show off the swine (pigs), heifers and steers they have been raising for livestock experts to receive feedback as well and have an opportunity to win a championship.

Hutto’s Hippo gets her own book

HUTTO – Henrietta Hippo’s adventure started in 1915 and is commemorated with thousands of hippo statues situated throughout the city. Now her story has been re-imagined as a children’s book called “Hippos Are My Heroes,” replete with dynamic graphics and plenty of local references.

Last week, the Williamson County Expo Center came alive with moos, clucks and bleats. At the 77th Annual Williamson County Livestock Association Show and Sale was held at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor.

Organization balks at agenda item

Although Taylor’s two parades are over — one billed as holiday procession focused on inclusivity, the other featuring family and biblical values — the controversy continues to brew. The episode, billed by some as a culture clash or “dueling parades,” has focused a national spotlight on Taylor.

Hutto robotics team takes state

HUTTO – The halls of Hutto High School were booming Monday, Dec. 5 with a hallway pep rally celebrating the 2022 UIL State Championship Competition of Best of Texas Robotics. The reason for the celebration, Hutto ISD is once again home to a state championship Robotics UIL title. The UIL competition was held Dec. 1-3 in Frisco. Over the weekend, the Hutto High School Robotics Team, RoboCo XI, won the gold medal.

Artists sought for city public art project

Do you have a fun idea for an art piece to be displayed in city parks? Artists are sought for The Taylor Public Arts Advisory Board’s Portal Project, which is a fun and creative way to bring art to unexpected community areas, such as the hike and bike trail, by decorating the elevated manhole covers along the route. The Portal Project already spans several manhole covers along the trail, starting from Eleventh and Washburn streets and heading south and east.

City considers new guidelines for parades, other events

The dueling parades of 2022 may be a one-shot deal if the City Council approves new guidelines that were already in the works for public festivities. At the regular meeting of the city council this Thursday evening, city leaders will consider approving new guidelines for cosponsorship status for special events.

STAAR interim providing Taylor ISD with key data

Administrators at Taylor Independent School District are keeping a closer eye on students’ achievement in reading and math this year. A few weeks ago, students in Taylor ISD took the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness interim test, a free optional online assessment that gives administrators important data to help them prepare for the STAAR, a key assessment used in determining the district’s rating each year from the Texas Education Agency.
