Waste pickup suspended
Waste pickup suspended

Due to inclement weather and the closure of the Austin Community Landfill, Waste Management cancelled all trash and recycling pickup services in the city January 31. According to city officials, waste collection service is expected to resume on Wednesday, February 1, but may be suspended again depending upon conditions.

So far, 2023’s weather has been exceptionally mild. It is almost hard to believe that it is not actually spring. Mother Nature makes it difficult to determine the seasons in Central Texas. Thanks to our mostly temperate climate in Central Texas, winter is more easily defined by the allergy forecast than the thermometer.

Hutto ISD board OK’s $522 million bond

HUTTO, Texas — The Hutto Independent School District is taking major steps to address current and future enrollment growth. At their January 26 meeting, the Hutto ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved calling a $522 million bond election, funded through additional property value growth within the district and with zero increase to the tax rate, following the district’s Long Range Facilities Planning Committee’s recommended project list to the school board.

Voters within Hutto ISD’s boundaries will have the opportunity to cast their votes on three propositions during the May 6 election. Items in the 2023 Bond proposal include: • Build-out of Ninth Grade Center to a second, Comprehensive High School - $180,000,000 • High School Renovations and Additions (final phases) - $68,000,000 • Existing Middle School Classroom Additions (Hutto & Farley middle schools) - $14,000,000 • Purchase Land for Future School Sites $32,000,000 • Districtwide Technology Upgrades $10,500,000 • Buses and Satellite Operations - $10,000,000 • Deferred Maintenance Projects - $24,000,000 • Instructional Technology Devices TOTAL: $10,500,000 PROPOSITION C • District Academic Center: includes River Horse Academy, DAEP, 18+ Special Education Program and Central Office TOTAL: $40,000,000.
