Saturday, April 1 starting at 6 p.m., Taylor Educational Enrichment Foundation will host a fundraising event for Taylor Independent School District educators. The event will take place at Williamson County Expo Center, 5350 Bill Pickett Trail.

On Saturday, April 22, Cinderella’s Closet will host a free arts and craft fair at 3 p.m. Murphy Park, 1600 Veterans Dr. Seventy Texan artisans, craftsmen and chefs will set up a special event featuring arts, crafts, clothing, food, home décor and jewelry. Participants have the opportunity to engage in a silent auction as well.

HUTTO – Proving that people can have different views and still sit together at a table, all seven candidates for Hutto City Council answered audience questions during the 2023 Hutto Community Watch candidate forum March 25. Although candidates agreed in principal on many questions, following are a few areas where they differed.

Taylor Middle School inducted 11 new members into the National Junior Honor Society during an evening ceremony on March 21. Students are selected for membership based on scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. Speakers for the event included Superintendent Devin Padavil and Principal Steven Vigil. EDIE ZUVANICH Special to the Press HUTTO – There were no complaints of racial profiling filed against the Hutto Police Department or any of its officers in 2022, which means the department is in full compliance with the Texas Racial Profiling Law. “In response to (Texas Code of Criminal Procedures Article 3.05), we have policies in place in our department that prohibit officers from engaging in racial profiling or stopping or detaining or searching any individual based upon their race, their background, their sexual orientation, religion or anything,” Chief Jeffrey Yarbrough told City Council during their March 23 meeting.

Applications for the Leo Livingston Fund grant are due Friday, March 31, at 5 p.m. The Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley administers a charitable endowment fund that was created in memory of Leo Livingston by his wife Doris Livingston, benefits nonprofit organizations in the Taylor community.

With Samsung Austin Semiconductor on the city’s literal horizon, Taylor Independent School District is embracing the change — and seeking community partners. “I would like all of us in this room to think of ourselves as shareholders,” said Superintendent Devin Padavil at the March 20 “State of Our Schools” luncheon sponsored by the Greater Taylor Chamber of Commerce held at the event center of Taylor ISD.

On a recent Saturday morning, Taylor Independent School District’s 18-Plus Program student Sarai Curiel was trying on different gowns for prom at Cinderella’s Closet, with her mom and younger brother in tow. “I like this one,” Curiel announced as she emerged from the dressing room, wearing a rhinestone-embellished sleeveless dress with a twirly, knee-length tulle skirt and a radiant smile to match.
